New personalised app for maternity patients

Parents-to-be across the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board area can now access their maternity records digitally, following the launch of the Badger Notes app.

The new system gives pregnant women and birthing people secure, real-time access to their maternity information directly from their phone, tablet or computer.

Through the app, expectant parents can view appointment details, test results, scan reports and notes entered by their midwife or healthcare team. Information is updated in real time, helping families stay informed throughout pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period.

The app will be rolled out in two phases. From 17 March anyone registering a new pregnancy will use the new system. Anyone who has already registered a pregnancy before this date, will have access to the system later in the summer.

Badger Notes allows users to play a more active role in their maternity journey. Patients can:

· Add personal information such as allergies and medical history

· Record their birth preferences and plans

· Receive tailored guidance and resources from their midwife

· Share feedback about their care experiences

The app includes additional features such as a week-by-week pregnancy guide, insights into baby development, and space for personal diary entries.

All information within Badger Notes is securely stored and protected by individual login details, similar to online banking. The platform is the same secure system used by maternity healthcare professionals, ensuring confidentiality at every stage.

The introduction of digital maternity records will also reduce reliance on paper notes. This helps minimise duplication of information and allows midwives to spend more time focusing on patient care.

While most patients are encouraged to use the digital app, anyone who does not have access to a phone or digital device will continue to be fully supported with paper records.

Richard Hughes, Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery said: “We are delighted to introduce Badger Notes for our families in CTM. This app puts important maternity information directly into parents’ hands, helping

them feel informed, involved and supported throughout their pregnancy journey.

“Moving to digital records allows our midwives and other clinical staff to spend less time on paperwork and more time focusing on personalised care, while ensuring that information remains safe and secure.”
