Lung Health Check Pilot wins Royal College of Physicians Excellence in Patient Care Awards 2025

We’re delighted to share that Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, with the support of the NHS Wales National Cancer Team, has been named the winner of the Eric Watts Award for Patient Engagement category at the Royal College of Physicians’ Excellence in Patient Care Awards 2025. 

The project, ‘Patient-driven co-development of the Wales Lung Health Check Operational Pilot to optimise equitable participation’, focused on the development of participant-facing materials and the related patient/public involvement through multiple groups including the Tenovus All-Wales Cancer Community.  

It has now received national recognition for efforts to enhance patient care. This award is a testament to the dedication, collaboration, and hard work of everyone involved.  

Dr Sinan Eccles, Consultant in Respiratory Medicine and Project Lead, said:  

“We are delighted to receive this recognition from the Royal College of Physicians.  

“One of the ambitions for the Lung Health Check Operational Pilot was to pave the way for a national lung cancer screening programme in Wales, and this is something we are moving towards at the moment. This award is a significant milestone in that journey and is wonderful recognition of the commitment of our teams and partners in delivering innovative, patient-centred care.”
