Visiting with a clear purpose is defined as being based on the best interests of the patient/service user. This can vary from patient to patient and people should use their own judgement, but visits should always put the mental health and recovery of the patient first.
Yes, with a few exceptions:
Visits should be arranged in advance directly with the ward, usually by phone call. Please stay patient when you call, as we expect lines to be very busy and staff members will be answering the phone alongside their regular duties caring for patients.
This can vary, so ask your ward how much notice they require. Generally more notice is better.
There is a maximum of 2 visitors allowed at one time.
Different people can visit on different days, it doesn’t always have to be the same person.
This is at the ward’s discretion and will depend on ward availability, capacity and the wellbeing of our patients. Please ask your ward for details.
All visitors must carry out a lateral flow test on the day of the visit and upload the result to the NHS portal. You should only visit if the result is negative.
While visiting, you should wear a face covering at all times. You should also regularly use the alcohol hand gel available at our hospitals, and wash your hands with soap and water when you get the opportunity to do so.
You do not need to wear a specific type of face covering, and you may use your own if you wish. Should you require a face covering, surgical facemasks are available at the entrances of all our hospitals.
If you are exempt from wearing a face covering, you should inform the ward manager. You will be asked to present evidence of medical exemption at the start of your visit.
