Drugs and Alcohol

man and woman dancing We want you to have a good time so here are top tips for staying safe.

  1. Firstly if you are with friends, look out for each other. Take turns being the one who has a day/night of not drinking to look after your pals. Unfortunately at all large events there will be people there who are up to no good, and assaults and thefts do happen, so stay in groups and look after your belongings.
  2. Your friends may pressure you to drink more than usual and you may be at risk of having your drink spiked. So keep an eye on your drink at all times and don’t accept offers of a drink from someone you don’t know. Make sure you eat before you start drinking and have a soft drink or water between your alcoholic drinks
  3. Drugs are a fact of life at most events, and festivals are events where inhibitions fly away. Your friends may also try to talk you into taking drugs that you would not usually take. But more and more drugs are being ‘cut’ with other dangerous substances and you have no way of knowing what the drugs or the cutting agent are, or the strength of the drug, other than the word of the person selling them to you. So called ‘legal’ highs are now all illegal.

If you are tempted please be aware that there is no way of checking what you are taking, and most illicit drugs can have very unpleasant side effects. For more information on illicit drugs see www.talktofrank.com

Don’t be worried about seeking medical help if you are worried about a friend who appears to have taken something, information is rarely shared with the police. And it is really important to be honest with whoever is treating your friend about what has happened so they can choose the appropriate treatment.
