Emergency Department Volunteers
During volunteers week 1st – 7th June 2023, Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board in conjunction with the Volunteer Service are extremely excited to announce the recent introduction of Emergency Department Volunteers.
The pilot project was launched in May 2023, initially at the Princess of Wales Hospital and our volunteers are supporting with:
- Providing a ‘friendly face at the bedside and spend time in general conversation
- Assist with the serving of light refreshments under staff guidance
- Sit with patients awaiting assessments, treatment and accompany patients to other departments
- Run general errands, refill supplies and update patient notice boards
- Direct relatives to patients and staff
- Distribute patient feedback comment cards, support with the completion of on line surveys and provide feedback to staff on behalf of patients and visitors
The plan moving forward is to expand the volunteer support to other emergency departments across our organisation and we have been overwhelmed with the interest in the role.
