Pharmacist Independent Prescriber Service

Some pharmacists across the Cwm Taf Morgannwg region offer the Pharmacist Independent Prescriber service, meaning a pharmacist may be able to treat additional conditions, beyond the scope of the Common Ailments Service, without the need to see your GP.

Independent prescribers can assess patients with certain conditions, such as ear infections, within a community pharmacy. Patients will have a private assessment in a confidential consultation room, and the pharmacist can prescribe the necessary medication, if needed.

The conditions that pharmacists can treat and prescribe for can vary between pharmacist to pharmacist and is subject to availability.

If you think you need to see a pharmacist, please use the NHS 111 Wales availability tool, which can be found here, or contact your local community pharmacy to see if they are able to offer this service before attending.
