Kylie Erricker, a Health Care Support Worker based at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board’s The Hummingbird Centre, recently won the Course Representative of the Year Award at the University of South Wales (USW) 2024 Student Choice Awards.

The Student Choice Awards were held on 23 May 2024 at the Student Union Building at USW’s Treforest Campus. They are an opportunity to celebrate the staff and students who have gone above and beyond in their work, voluntary roles or their everyday life.

Kylie said: “I can honestly say that I'm absolutely loving the course. I was encouraged at the start to help as Deputy Course Representative for my cohort. It has been great to help support other students as I feel that it's always important to be there for someone to talk to when times get hard. Serving as course rep, I witnessed first-hand the impact of support and togetherness among classmates. It was a privilege to get nominated for a Student Choice Award for Course Representative of the year and then to have been shortlisted was overwhelming, I never once thought I'd win my category.

“I would highly recommend the course to other HCSWs that would like to progress. Not only have I learnt so much in my first year, but I have also developed great networking skills and it has helped me to build on my confidence. I cannot thank my work family enough for all their support and guidance along with Cwm Taf Morgannwg? Education for Nursing for giving opportunities to further education”.

Craig Jones (HCSW Education & Development Manager, CTMUHB) said: “Kylie's outstanding dedication and commitment as a student in the Level 4 Certificate in Higher Education Health Care Support Worker programme at USW have shone through by winning this award. We extend our congratulations to Kylie on this well-deserved recognition. As a course representative, Kylie is a dedicated role model for all Health Care Support Workers (HCSWs) across Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB), inspiring them to excel and reach their full potential.

“The HCSW education team in CTMUHB wishes to thank Kylie for taking on this role as a mentor, a source of support and a key point of contact for all HCSWs on the course. Thank you Kylie for your outstanding commitment and for being such a credit as a HCSW in CTM. A truly deserving award. We wish you every success for your future career!”

Lynne Estebanez (Inter-professsional HCSW Education & Development Manager, CTMUHB) said: “I am absolutely delighted at this fabulous achievement. Da iawn Kylie! Keep up the good work!”

Stuart Baker (Course Tutor, University of South Wales) said: “Kylie has worked tirelessly, not only thinking of her own studies, but also making sure that the students on the CertHE Healthcare Nursing Support Worker Education had their needs met as well. As a course team we have been impressed by Kylie's work ethic, time management and dedication not just to herself but also to others on the course. Kylie deserves to be recognised for her hard work and as a course team we would also like to add our congratulations on winning this deserved award”.
