Cwm Taf Morgannwg staff scoop three Moondance Cancer Awards

Moondance Cancer Initiative Staff from Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board have won three 2024 Moondance Cancer Awards.

The Moonlight Cancer Awards celebrate and spotlight brilliant people across NHS Wales and its partners who deliver, lead and innovate cancer services. The 2024 awards took place on 13 June at Depot, Cardiff.

In the Innovation & Improvement category, a team including Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB, the Regional Hepatocellular Carcinoma Service for South Wales, Cardiff & Vale UHB, Aneurin Bevan UHB won the Cancer Workforce Award.

In the same category, another team consisting of Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB and the National Strategic Clinical Network for Cancer won the Early Detection & Diagnosis Award for Lung Health Checks - Operational Pilot for Wales.

Finally, Ms Zoe Barber (Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon) won the Excellence Medical award.

Dr Sinan Eccles, Clinical Lead for the Lung Health Check Pilot and Consultant Respiratory Physician said “The Lung Health Check Operational Pilot has already saved lives from lung cancer and is providing learning for a future national lung cancer screening programme. It’s brilliant that the team delivering the Pilot has been recognised through this award.”

Zoe Barber said: “I'm delighted to have won the Moondance Excellence: Clinical Award in recognition of our work in developing the UK's first metastatic cancer pathway (the All-Wales Metastatic Breast Cancer Pathway) and creating the Snowdrop Breast Centre to provide outstanding breast care to our patients. It is an absolute privilege to work as part of an ambitious, dynamic and passionate team that aims to provide the best possible care for our patients. I am so proud to work at CTMUHB.”

Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB’s Chief Executive Officer Paul Mears said “I am thrilled that CTM has been recognised by winning three categories in this year’s Moondance Cancer Awards. This is a fantastic achievement and demonstrates the efforts of our teams who are delivering, leading and working to innovate cancer services. A huge congratulations to our three winners.”
