CTM's Mandie Welch honoured with Pumping Marvellous Foundation National Award

Mandie Welch CTM’s Mandie Welch (Heart Failure Nurse Specialist) based at Royal Glamorgan Hospital, has been honoured by the Pumping Marvellous Foundation with a national award for supporting people living with heart failure.

The Pumping Marvellous Foundation is the UK’s patient-led Heart Failure charity. Mandie was nominated for the award by a patient who she had been supporting, and had sign posted towards the charity.

Mandie’s role involves providing education, support and optimising life prolonging medications to patients living with heart failure.

The patient said: “Mandie not only got me ticking better again, she listened to my concerns and made sure I understood.  Since then, she‘s been available every step of the way.  My absolute favourite is when she leaves messages that say ‘nothing to worry about’ that makes a huge difference.”

Dr Gethin Ellis, Consultant Cardiologist said: “Mandie is fully deserving of this award.  She has been instrumental in developing and improving heart failure services both locally and on a wider national scale. She has played a key role in developing an app that is used successfully to empower heart failure patients in managing their condition. Mandie is always looking to innovate and improve heart failure services further. She is ultimately, simply an excellent and immensely well-liked nurse.

Mandie said “Having a heart failure diagnosis can be terrifying for patients and carers, so being able to provide this ongoing service to our patients is incredibly rewarding. Being part of the patient’s journey is a real privilege and to be recognised for having a positive effect on that journey is second to none. It’s why we love our jobs, not for the recognition, but for the lasting impact you have on a patient’s experience. I am thrilled to receive this award and would like to thank the Pumping Marvellous Foundation for this recognition.”
