Major refurbishment works at the Emergency Department, Princess of Wales Hospital

We are investing in significant building and refurbishment works in the Emergency Department at Princess of Wales Hospital, with the aim of improving services for everyone accessing the Department.

The 12 week capital build will involve a complete restructure of the patient waiting area, providing a more comfortable and welcoming environment with improved privacy and confidentiality.

While we are undertaking this work, we are asking our staff and members of the public to be patient and understanding of any disruption caused by the improvement programme. Once complete, we will have created a far more user friendly environment improving the experience of visiting the department for everyone.

Along with upgrading our reception and waiting area we will also be increasing patient toilet facilities and a dedicated mental health assessment room.

Work will begin on Monday 30 January; please bear with us as we work at pace to make these much needed improvements. If you do need to visit the Emergency Department during this period, we ask that, where possible, you attend alone or you limit the number of people accompanying you to just one as our available waiting areas will be reduced during this time.
